MEETING MINUTES June 9, 2009
Officers in Attendance: President Mike Quintana, Vice-President Louie Tafoya, Secretary Gretchen Elsner; Treasurer Michelle Beltran Members and Friends in Attendance: Jeanette Dalton; Jackie Wenner; Lenton Malry, Bernalillo County; Tonya Covington, Albuquerque Land Use; Virginia Valdez, Christian Academy Daycare; Jen Perez, Patrolman First Class from APD; Doug Crandall, DAC Inc.; William Melad, AAA Quality Cars The meeting was called to order at 6:36 pm. Pledge of allegiance. The agenda was approved. Land Use Issues Christian Academy Daycare: Virginia Valdez requested our support of a conditional use permit for 476 57th St., right across from Lavaland Elementary School. Christian Academy is a 501(c)3. It is currently an R-2. There is not supposed to be any parking on 57th St. because parents are required to come in to the building with their students. Virginia is in contact with the principal and assistant principal at Lavaland Elementary School. Louie Tafoya moved that we approve the conditional use permit. Jackie Wenner seconded it. All in favor. Mike Quintana committed us to the a letter of support to the ZHE. Christian Academy Daycare pledged to become a dues-paying member of the neighborhood association. AAA Quality Cars/Bill Melad: Doug Crandall, DAC Inc., explained that the empty lot on Coors adjacent to Discount Tire is zoned SU-1 for for C-1 use, which requires public hearing. Bill Melad intends to invest $2-3 million to improve the lot and establish a used car lot. It will be covered with asphalt, but have only one small building. There will be landscaping. The property will be fenced. Nobody in attendance had objections to the preliminary plan. When there is something official to be voted on, the association will take a vote. AAA Quality Cars joined WMNA as a business member and made a donation of $200. Treasurer’s & Secretary’s Report Jeanette Dalton moved and Louie Tafoya seconded the Treasurer’s Report. Jackie Wenner moved to accept and Louie Tafoya seconded the minutes. Both were approved. Public Safety Report Jen Perez, APD, asked for our concerns. We asked for her to patrol the West Mesa Market area. Jackie Wenner asked for APD to patrol speeding on Yucca. Membership Committee Report Jeanette Dalton discussed the fact that we need to have something to offer businesses and individuals to induce them to join the association and attend meetings. To that end, we agreed to host a neighborhood event on National Night Out, August 4, 2009. Mike registered our neighborhood association to get an info packet. Tasks for National Night Out Planning:
We will meet again in two weeks, Tuesday, June 23, 6 pm at the West Mesa Community Center.
